Reverse Osmosis Desalination Technologies

Specialising in critical desalination applications, Osmoflo has developed considerable experience in designing, building and operating a wide variety of membrane based water treatment technologies. Many of our plants are located in remote and outback locations requiring us to treat water that can be a combination of hot, organically rich, highly saline and turbid water containing salts which have a strong tendency to affect membrane performance.

The key to effective desalination is pretreatment. We have expertise in many processes including:

  • evaporative cooling towers
  • heat exchangers
  • many forms of filtration - multimedia, nano, ultra, micro
  • aeration
  • .... and many more

Once through the pretreatment and reverse osmosis process, antiscalants are used to prolong membrane life. Osmoflo has a specifically designed range tailored to the raw water we treat.

The life of reverse osmosis membranes is also determined by the skill of the plant operators to manage daily operations. This is done through PlantConnect®, Osmoflo's proprietary remote monitoring and control system, linked back to our 24 hour manned operations control centre. Supported by flexible Operations & Maintenance Agreements for preventative service and regular plant maintenance, we keep your plant at peak performance.

Another aspect to ensure plant efficiency is the use of energy recovery systems in the form of turbines and pressure exchangers, ensuring energy consumption is at a minimum. The use of these technologies can increase water recovery to 95%.

The reverse osmosis permeate can be corrosive. Osmoflo use a number of post-treatment technologies to rectify this including:

  • calcite filters to remove alkalinity
  • pH correction through degassing towers
  • demineralisation plants using ion exchange resins and electro-deionisation processes
