Challenge With the V&A Waterfront precinct situated in South Africa’s oldest working harbour, the area has been developed for mixed-use, with both residential and commercial real estate. The water treatment project was instigated by the City of Cape Town with the requirement to mitigate the shortage of potable water due to one of the region’s worst droughts on record.
Solution The project involved the supply, installation and commissioning of a fully containerised 2 MLD seawater reverse osmosis and multimedia filtration plant. This was delivered under a rental contract for a minimum duration of 24 months.
With a tight delivery schedule of just 8 weeks, Osmoflo’s capability for fast deployment of equipment meant the plant was delivered and producing potable water inline with the required schedule. The desalination plant was operational by March 2018, with Osmoflo also providing operations and maintenance support.
The plant consisted of 7 x 40 foot containerised plant which were shipped from Osmoflo’s storage facility in Dubai. With a 30 day transit time, the plant travelled a distance of approximately 10,000 km to Cape Town.
Result The result was a fast track emergency water treatment solution for the V&A Waterfront and in turn, the City of Cape Town. The plant provides potable water within the waterfront precinct, and allows for previously allocated water to be redistributed within the main network.
Osmoflo had been following the City of Town’s need to augment severely restricted potable water supplies and our engagement on this project showcases Osmoflo’s ability to deliver water treatment solutions anywhere in the world. We were proud that through this project we were able to be one part of the solution for this region.
